Two recent stories of Wi-Fi offerings of note:
United Airlines will offer in-flight Wi-Fi on selected aircraft in mid-2012, with the entire fleet covered by 2015. The offering will be via Panasonic's Ku-band satellite technology and will offer Wi-Fi worldwide, even on long-haul overseas flights.
